Honeymoon Schmoneymoon

Finding the perfect place for our Honeymoon within budget is turning out to be a bigger challenge than I expected it to be. With the Hons being in London and I in Bremen and us talking at night when we want to go through our day and just talk without any wedding business (most of the time) it is quite hard to find time to decide on where we want to go and what we are looking for. My suggestion of Iceland was immediately laughed away and replaced with 'somewhere warm' so that is what we have been looking for. It's not easy. And not that fun so far. We have very limited funds and I have (quite possibly unrealistic) desires.
Did you ever play the game M.A.S.H.? You know, the game where you were 10 and you would sit with your girly friends and say 'Ok, 5 boys you want to marry' and then the boys names would roll out 'Dan, Garrett, Dustin...' and you would go on, through how you would live, where you would work, what dress you would have, what ring, flowers, and Honeymoon places. 5 of each. And your friend would count the lines and start crossing people out. In the end you hear the result - 'Ok, Sarah, you are going to marry...' (at this point you're feeling sick with nervousness) '... Dan [yay!] and you will be living in a shack [oh no!], working as a ballerina [yay!], you are going to where a turquoise dress [(sadly now) yay!], your ring will be plastic...' you get the point. The thing is, that game is misleading. When you're planning a wedding, and, I am realising, a Honeymoon, you don't have 5 choices and a friend who crosses them out for you. You have budgets, and limitations and time constraints. Not quite as fun.
I could really use some inspiration on this Honeymoon thing. So, if you are reading this please, please please: where did you go on your Honeymoon? Where are you going? Where would you go if you could? Any cheap, romantic, hot, beautiful, old, perfect, student-budget places?
Please, or I will just have to do it like this:

  1. We went to the South of France and it was beautiful! Use your connections! You know so many people in so many countries, someone is doomed to have the perfect cottage, house, flat in a beautiful place. At the end of the day, wherever you are will be the perfect place. It'll be you. And him. So in love that everything looks like in the movies (but it's actually SO MUCH better, because it's real!!), birds are singing, food tastes amazing, the sky is always blue. It's not about finding the perfect location. It'll become perfect because of what it means to you. Also, I would think about whether you'd like to go somewhere new and play the tourists, if you want to be somewhere isolated and go for walks, read, cook. If you want to be in the mountains (Switzerland!), in the city (Florence!), by the sea (Ireland)... and then try to get connected with the Army there. Or bed&breakfast... Again, the week Chris and I spend in the South of France was awesome. I look back and just smile. We just asked someone if we could use their house there, and they said yes. Go at it that way. Who has a vacation house somewhere nice? And the two of you will make it incredible by just being finally together. Husband and wife.
May Joy fill your hearts as you prepare to embark on this journey.
    Love,
    Jessica

  2. Well on your picture it says Paris and I know you already shot me down when I suggested this but maybe you should reconsider. Paris is romantic. Paris is versatile because it´s a city. And Matt and I went there when we got engaged.

My mum and I were looking for a holiday for the winter last week. And all our requirements were cheap and warm as well. And cheap and warm is what we got. Mallorca. It was the cheapest option and it still was 430€ per person. So I am sorry to break it to you but with the new flight taxes and modernday economy in general cheap doesn´t mean 200€ anymore. Sorry girl. That´s why Matt and I never even went on a honeymoon. My Mum normally never would have wanted to go to Mallorca because of the image it has but with Aurora and our budget we decided it was the best option after all and you know what, regardless of the bad rep it has I am sure we´ll be able to find cool places and have a good time.
